It is the start of a new season and the RCMP Musical Ride is about to embark on their new 2016 tour.  Their kickoff will be on April 22, 2016 at 2 p.m. and the public is invited.  On this date, they will hold their annual Commissioner’s Inspection.  This amazing event is open to the public at the RCMP Musical Ride Stables located at 1 Sandridge Road, Ottawa, Ontario.

The world famous RCMP Musical Ride is well known for being ambassadors of goodwill.  Between the months of May to October, their troop of 32 riders and horses attend approximately 50 communities per season.  This year they will be performing in southern Ontario and Manitoba.  For 10 days they will break from their Canadian tour to go to England and perform for five days.  What an exciting life they get to lead.

The RCMP does not have the resources to have a photographer follow them on tour, so for photos and social media they rely on the riders to tweet and post on Facebook and YouTube their experiences while they are in travelling in the provinces.  The Ottawa Royal Canadian Mounted Police Public Relations posts on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the web to promote their activities and tour dates.  There is talk of having a photographer to follow the tour and post on Instagram  next year as it will be their 150th anniversary.

The RCMP Musical Ride started in 1867 as a way for the Mountie’s to show off their riding skills and entertain their community.  They have come a long way since then.

Now the Mounties go on tour to various cities across Canada and perform for various non-profit organizations and local charities.  Thousands of dollars are raised and kept in each community.  As such, each organization and charity is responsible for posting their own social media to promote the event.

The first event after the Commissioner’s Inspection will be for the Alzheimer Society of Lanark Leeds Grenville on June 18th at the Perth Fairgrounds.  A representative of the  Alzheimer Society, says besides holding a media release, and newspaper articles, they plan to use Facebook on promoting the Musical Ride.  Facebook is the only social media source they plan to use.

The Mounties are an icon.  They are idolized all over the world and very well known by their red jackets, beautifully trained horses and their symbolic Musical Ride.  I believe they are one of Canada’s best known and recognized symbols and very unique to Canada.

Was being a Mountie and riding with the RCMP one of your childhood dreams?
